Lehman-Roberts, a Granite Company, a leader in the Mid-South highway paving and asphalt industries, is pleased to announce the appointments of Cathy Barnes and David Maddock to Safety Specialist.
In this role, both Cathy and David will primarily be responsible for executing safety compliance. As champions for a culture of safety excellence, both will ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA and other construction industry standards. Day to day, each will serve as a subject matter expert on Mississippi and Tennessee DOT compliance, proactive accident prevention and safe work practices.
“As we continue prioritizing a best-in-class safety program, Cathy and David will be key in fortifying the bench strength that will help us meet and exceed that goal,” said Eric Allen, Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety. “This team will act as a true partner and resource for our field team members. All in all, we are there to enable to safety culture, and I look forward to these new additions contributing to that journey.”
In her role, Cathy will have added focus on asphalt plants and surface mining sites of sister company Memphis Stone & Gravel. Before joining the team, Cathy served as the Health, Safety, and Environment Manager for Lanxess Corporation. Within this role, she gained key experience in developing and implementing safety programs, as well as conducting audits and ensuring regulatory compliance. In addition, Cathy holds her OSHA 30 certification, TapRooT Root Cause Methodology Training, HAZWOPER/Emergency Response, and more.
In discussing her journey with the team, Cathy shared, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my previous years of experience. [It’s been a joy] getting to know and learn from the entire team at Lehman-Roberts/Memphis Stone & Gravel and to help make this a safer workplace for all.”
In his day-to-day, David’s focus will primarily be on supporting paving and grading crews. David joins the team with an impressive background, most recently serving as a Safety Specialist at Memphis VA Medical Center for 5 years. Before that, he served in a similar role for Mitsubishi Chemical Ionic Solution, as well as other safety compliance roles within the asphalt industry for more than 12 years. David holds a bachelor’s degree from the American InterContinental University. Before joining the realm of safety, David retired after 20 years with the United States Coast Guard.
When asked about what he looked forward to most in this new role, David shared, “Teamwork shown [thus far] is very supportive and I’ve witnessed a true willingness to learn from each other. Lehman-Roberts/Memphis Stone & Gravel treat you like a family member, and I am excited to start my journey.”
