MEMPHIS, Tenn., February 3, 2022 – Lehman-Roberts Co., a leader in the highway paving, construction and asphalt industry, was awarded two 2021 Quality in Construction (QIC) Awards, for excellence in construction of an asphalt pavement, from the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA). The company was recognized during the association’s 67th Annual Meeting.
“Quality is the number one trait we strive to produce at our family of companies, be it from our people, our products, or our projects,” said Michael Ellis, vice president of construction. “We are both humbled and honored to have received these recognitions, as it is a sign that we are on the right track with our mission.”
Lehman-Roberts won these awards for its work on:
- SR 76 in Fayette County, Tennessee, which comprised of work on 6.74 miles of roadway. Project challenges included three road bridges with asphalt tie end joints and a railroad crossing on the southern end, which required the use of flaggers for road safety. Working under traffic, Lehman-Roberts placed a .85-inch asphalt overlay on the road, improving the ride quality by more than 46%.
- SR 278 in Lafayette County, Mississippi, comprising of two sections and equaling work on 16 total miles of roadway, which runs along the south side of downtown Oxford and the University of Mississippi. Since traffic was very heavy on this road, the company decided to pave a section of the highway at night. This was safer for workers, who were exposed to less traffic, and also prevented the trucks hauling asphalt from getting tied up in congested traffic. Lehman-Roberts milled and paved the road, improving ride quality by 65%.
