Preston Bryson Celebrates 40-Year Milestone

Preston Bryson was fresh out of high school when he started working at Lehman-Roberts. The subsequent 40 years tell the story of a career that continues to play a role in shaping the team we know today. In fact, his story outlines the opportunities of true blue-collar success in our industry.

Starting as a shovel man on Tommy Riles’ crew, a now-retired foreman with the company, Preston worked his way through the ranks.

Preston later filled the roles of Paver Operator, Prep Crew Foreman, Field Engineer, and finally, Superintendent. Tommy reminisced, “I can remember the first day Preston started on my crew. We were paving Walnut Grove in Memphis at the time.”

Jarod Riles, General Superintendent who has worked alongside Preston for 26+ years, shared, “Preston has been involved with just about every project we’ve completed for the last few decades. Whether he was part of the planning or carrying out the work, he made it happen.”

Perhaps more impressive than his years of service is the immense dedication Preston has demonstrated to our people. Jeremy Ramberg, VP of Construction, joked, “Don’t let Preston’s gruff exterior fool you. Yes, he will hold himself and all those around him accountable, but those who genuinely know Preston will know he’s got a heart of gold and deeply cares for the people around him.”

Michael Ellis, VP of Project Management and a long-time co-worker alongside Preston, added, “Preston is absolutely passionate about the people he works around. He ensures they’re well taken care of, and he truly wants the best for our team and the company as a whole.”

That care is shown by Preston’s guidance on the job at hand. Greg Ketchum, Assistant Superintendent who trained for years under Preston’s leadership, remarked, “Preston knows the job [inside and out], and he will always show you how to do something if you’re willing to learn.” Jeremy added, “After 40 years, Preston’s knowledge is not just vast; it’s unmatched. He’s the go-to expert in paving, grading, and operations, and it’s truly an honor to work with someone whose expertise we can always rely on.”

VP of Quality Control Don Fletcher closed by stating, “Preston is tough with a deeply caring nature. He’s the kind of person you want on your side when things get difficult.” Jarod Riles mirrored the sentiment by adding, “Preston truly embodies our core values. He’s a strong leader who’s helped train most of our foremen, so they’re ready to lead. I, too, have learned just by watching him on the job site.”

Preston put it best in a previous spotlight when he shared that his favorite part of the job is the people. “It takes everyone on the team to get the job done well,” he shared. “From the plant crews to the paving crews to the people who pay the bills, no one of us can deliver the finished pavement to the customer alone.”

Congratulations, Preston! With you on the team, you have made us all better people. We are truly grateful for your contributions and dedication.
